Job Summary

The Medical Officer will provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care through accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and disease prevention while ensuring a positive patient experience in line with hospital standards, protocols, and ethical practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Care

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat patients in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies according to clinical guidelines.
  • Conduct medical procedures within the approved scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.

2. Patient Management

  • Admit, review, and discharge patients appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
  • Prepare clear medical reports and documentation.

3. Emergency Response

  • Provide urgent and emergency medical care when required.
  • Stabilize critically ill patients and coordinate referrals where necessary.

4. Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
    • Nurses
    • Specialists
    • Pharmacists
    • Laboratory teams
  • Participate in:
    • Ward rounds
    • Case reviews
    • Multidisciplinary meetings

5. Patient Education

  • Educate patients and families about:
    • Diagnoses
    • Treatment plans
    • Preventive care
  • Promote health awareness and disease prevention initiatives.

6. Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Adhere to hospital policies, clinical protocols, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and safety.
  • Participate in:
    • Clinical audits
    • Continuing Medical Education (CMEs)
    • Continuous professional development activities

7. Patient Experience & Engagement

  • Deliver compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered care at all times.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and their families.
  • Ensure patients are well-informed about:
    • Diagnoses
    • Treatment options
    • Progress updates
  • Listen and respond appropriately to patient concerns, feedback, and complaints.
  • Promote service excellence and uphold hospital patient experience standards.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a reputable university.

Certification & Licensing

  • Valid practicing license from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
  • Certification in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year post-internship clinical experience.
