About the Project
Makerere University has received funding from the Governments of Uganda and South Korea to implement the Improvement of Makerere University Project. The project aims to strengthen the University’s infrastructure and institutional capacity through strategic investments in modern facilities and improved service delivery.
Makerere University invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandan candidates to fill the position of Project Engineer on a two-year contract.

Job Purpose
The Project Engineer will provide technical oversight for all infrastructure works under the project by supervising consultants, contractors, and technical teams to ensure quality, timely delivery, compliance with engineering standards, and successful implementation of project activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise project consultants and technical staff on all engineering aspects.
- Ensure service providers comply with contractual obligations.
- Assist in procurement planning and reporting.
- Participate in preparing bid documents.
- Participate in the evaluation of bids and proposals.
- Review and validate architectural and engineering designs.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary design inputs including Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP).
- Ensure construction works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and engineering codes.
- Supervise contractors and subcontractors to ensure quality workmanship.
- Monitor compliance with national safety regulations and project-specific safety plans.
- Maintain detailed site records, quality control logs, and testing documentation.
- Support preparation of interim payment certificates, change orders, and technical justifications.
- Submit timely technical reports to the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
Requirements
- Computer literacy.
- Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD.
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years relevant professional experience.
- At least 3 years as a Registered Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
- Experience managing similar infrastructure projects.
