About the Project

Makerere University has received funding from the Governments of Uganda and South Korea to implement the Improvement of Makerere University Project. The project seeks to improve infrastructure and institutional capacity through the construction and modernization of key university facilities.

Makerere University invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandan candidates to fill the position of Architect on a two-year contract.

Contract Duration: 2 Years

Job Purpose

The Architect will review architectural designs, supervise architectural works, and ensure that all project facilities meet approved specifications, quality standards, and statutory building requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review architectural designs and specifications for proposed project facilities.
  • Manage all architectural and technical records.
  • Ensure construction complies with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable building codes.
  • Supervise contractors and subcontractors to ensure quality, timely delivery, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor compliance with project safety plans and national safety regulations.
  • Submit technical progress reports to the Project Engineer.

Qualifications

  • Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.

Requirements

  • Experience in designing and constructing educational facilities.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Proficiency in ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, and other architectural software.
  • Experience working on similar infrastructure projects.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years professional experience as an Architect.
  • At least 3 years registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
