Background

Makerere University has received funding from the Governments of Uganda and South Korea to implement the Improvement of Makerere University Project. The University invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandan candidates to fill the position of Quantity Surveyor on a two-year contract basis.

Job Purpose

To manage all quantity surveying functions for the project, ensuring proper cost management, valuation of works, contract administration, and value-for-money throughout project implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review Bills of Quantities (BOQs), specifications, and payment certificates.
  • Monitor project progress using Earned Value Methodology.
  • Monitor services performed by contractors and supervision consultants.
  • Undertake regular site visits and participate in monthly site meetings.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports.
  • Check disbursement schedules for construction works.
  • Verify contractors’ claims.
  • Conduct value engineering to improve project delivery and optimize costs.
  • Review payment certificates for contractors and consultants.
  • Submit timely reports to the Project Engineer.

Qualifications

  • Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying.

Additional Requirements

  • Practical experience in quantity surveying practice or related duties in a public or private institution.
  • Experience using ICT project planning tools such as Primavera, MS Project, or equivalent.

Experience

  • At least eight (8) years of relevant professional experience.
  • At least three (3) years should be as a registered Quantity Surveyor with the Surveyors Registration Board (SRB).
