Background

Makerere University has received funding from the Governments of Uganda and South Korea to implement the Improvement of Makerere University Project. The University invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandan candidates to fill the position of Accountant on a two-year contract basis.

Job Purpose

To manage the project’s financial payments, accounting processes, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with project financial management requirements and applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare regular project financial reports.
  • Verify compliance of payment documents.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and financial management reports within agreed timelines.
  • Implement effective internal controls to ensure efficient and economical utilization of project financial and physical resources.
  • Coordinate accounting and financial arrangements for project components in accordance with Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) reporting guidelines.
  • Support timely annual financial audits and value-for-money audits.
  • Submit timely reports to the Deputy Project Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce; or
  • Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
  • Professional qualification in CPA or ACCA.

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of the Government of Uganda Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) is an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least eight (8) years of practical experience in financial management or accounting.
  • At least three (3) years should have been served at the level of Principal Officer or an equivalent position in a reputable organization.
