Job Summary
The Process Engineering Lead will provide technical guidance on process engineering design and execution, serving as the lead subject matter expert for the refinery and related facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in refinery engineering design and execution.
- Lead reviews of process engineering drawings, specifications and installation procedures.
- Monitor contractor performance and recommend corrective action.
- Provide technical advice on budgets, procurement and modifications.
- Conduct engineering compliance checks and quality assessments.
- Develop maintenance priorities for process engineering activities.
- Provide input into process design, installation and operating studies.
- Develop and monitor manufacturing metrics.
- Support construction and commissioning teams.
- Research improved crude oil refining processes.
- Establish safety procedures for handling hazardous chemicals.
- Participate in inspection and testing activities.
- Ensure process engineering documentation is properly archived.
- Recommend training and competency development requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Chemistry or Science Technology Chemistry.
- At least 6 years’ relevant experience in process engineering in upstream, refining, petrochemical or gas processing environments.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Registration with UIPE, Engineers Registration Board or equivalent is an added advantage.
- PMP or project management training is an added advantage.
- Process safety experience including HAZOP, HAZID, PHA, LOPA, MOC and permit-to-work systems is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Uganda’s oil and gas regulatory framework is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in process simulation and design software such as Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of project management software.
- Data analysis and report writing.
- Strong stakeholder and interface management.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of oil and gas technical standards.
