Job Summary

The Medical Officer will provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care through accurate diagnosis, effective treatment and disease prevention, while ensuring a positive patient experience in line with hospital standards, clinical protocols and ethical practices.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Examine, diagnose and treat patients in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with clinical guidelines.
  • Perform medical procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.

Patient Management

  • Admit, review and discharge patients appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
  • Prepare clear medical reports and other required documentation.

Emergency Response

  • Provide urgent and emergency medical care when required.
  • Stabilize critically ill patients.
  • Coordinate referrals when necessary.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with nurses, specialists, pharmacists and laboratory teams.
  • Participate in ward rounds, case reviews and multidisciplinary meetings.

Patient Education

  • Educate patients and their families about diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Provide guidance on preventive care, health awareness and disease prevention.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Adhere to hospital policies, clinical protocols and ethical standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and safety.
  • Participate in audits, Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) and continuous professional development activities.

Patient Experience and Engagement

  • Provide compassionate, respectful and patient-centered care.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and their families.
  • Ensure patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options and progress.
  • Listen to and respond appropriately to patient concerns, feedback and complaints.
  • Promote a culture of service excellence and uphold the hospital’s patient experience standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a reputable university.
  • Valid practicing licence from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical post-internship experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an added advantage.
