Job Summary
This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring accuracy of financial records, enforcing compliance with accounting standards (IFRS), and strengthening the internal control environment at a transactional level. The position also supports month-end close, financial reporting, audit coordination, and inventory accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Accounting Integrity
- Manage the general ledger to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper classification of all transactions.
- Prepare, review, and post month-end journal entries including:
- Accruals
- Prepayments
- Depreciation
- Provisions
- Intercompany eliminations
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain and update the chart of accounts in line with accounting policies.
- Identify and correct accounting errors and maintain an adjustment log for review.
- Monitor system access rights and flag any unusual finance system activity.
Financial Reporting & Close Process
- Deliver a fully reconciled and closed ledger within agreed month-end timelines.
- Prepare management accounts for Finance Manager review and CFO approval.
- Prepare trial balance and draft statutory financial statements including:
- Income statement (P&L)
- Balance sheet
- Cash flow statement
- Financial statement notes
- Prepare audit-ready supporting schedules for all balance sheet items.
Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Oversee inventory accounting and ensure reconciliation between physical stock and ERP system records.
- Maintain accuracy of cost of goods sold (COGS) calculations.
- Review and approve inventory adjustments, write-downs, and provisions.
- Work with aftersales teams to ensure accurate landed cost computation for imports (freight, duties, clearance costs).
- Monitor inventory ageing and flag slow-moving or obsolete stock to management.
Audit Coordination
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors during interim and final audits.
- Prepare audit support schedules including:
- Accrual listings
- Prepayments
- Fixed asset registers
- Provide timely audit documentation and working papers.
- Respond to audit queries and escalate technical issues to the CFO where necessary.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
- Professional qualification (ACCA or CPA) required.
Experience
- 5–8 years of progressive experience in:
- Technical accounting
- Management accounting
- Corporate finance
- Strong exposure to:
- General ledger management
- Financial close processes
- Expense control
- IFRS reporting standards
- Experience supervising or coordinating finance operational teams (payables, credit control, treasury) is an added advantage.
