Job Summary

The Graduate Trainee – Procurement supports the implementation of procurement strategies in close collaboration with Procurement Managers at the local level. The role involves managing the operational and tactical procurement of local goods and services, including sourcing, negotiating, and contracting.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research potential suppliers for low-value spot purchases and present them to Procurement Managers for evaluation.
  • Source and compare quotations from multiple suppliers for spot purchases.
  • Negotiate prices, delivery timelines, and terms with suppliers.
  • Ensure goods and services meet company requirements before placing orders.
  • Track deliveries to ensure timely arrival and facilitate prompt supplier payments.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, including conducting quarterly performance reviews.
  • Monitor and report on risks or opportunities related to procurement activities.
  • Prepare local purchase orders for goods, equipment, and services within authorized limits.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate qualification in CIPS (or equivalent) is an added advantage.
  • At least 1 year of experience in procurement (sourcing/operations), with exposure to supply chain management, strategic sourcing, and procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of e-procurement systems and ERP platforms (e.g., SAP) is an added advantage.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Profile & Personal Qualities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with good stakeholder management abilities.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours when required.
