The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring sound credit decisions, maintaining portfolio quality, and providing technical leadership across the institution’s credit function.

Job Title: Credit Manager

Job Purpose

The Credit Manager will oversee credit assessment, ensure prudent lending decisions, provide technical support to credit teams, and contribute to the development of credit products, policies, and risk management practices while supporting sustainable portfolio growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality assessment of loan applications and make prudent lending decisions within delegated approval limits.
  • Recommend loan applications requiring higher approval authority where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with approved turnaround times and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, coaching, and technical support to credit teams across the branch network.
  • Promote growth of a quality loan portfolio while minimizing credit risk.
  • Lead the development of new credit products and the review of existing credit products, policies, and appraisal tools.
  • Identify training needs among Head Office and branch credit teams through branch visits, spot checks, and observations.
  • Recommend and support credit capacity-building initiatives to enhance staff competencies.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related business field.

Professional qualifications in any of the following are highly desirable:

  • Certified Credit Management
  • Credit Risk Management
  • Any other recognized professional certification in credit management

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong credit appraisal and loan assessment skills.
  • Sound understanding of credit risk management principles.
  • Knowledge of lending policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to make objective and prudent lending decisions.
  • Leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure while meeting turnaround times and service level commitments.
