Entebbe Airport Passenger Traffic Rises in July Despite Year-on-Year Decline
Passenger traffic at Entebbe International Airport increased significantly in July 2026, with the airport recording 156,342 international passengers during the month, up by 25,096 passengers from June.
The July figures included 86,586 arriving passengers and 69,756 departing passengers, translating to an average of about 5,043 international passengers per day.
The increase comes during a period when passenger traffic typically rises, with June to August considered a peak travel period.
Traffic Up from June
Entebbe International Airport handled 131,246 international passengers in June 2026, comprising 67,601 arrivals and 63,645 departures.
July’s total therefore represented an increase of 25,096 passengers compared with the previous month.
The month-on-month growth reflects increased travel activity during the peak season, as more passengers travel for business, tourism, family visits and other purposes.
Passenger Numbers Remain Below 2025 Levels
Despite the monthly increase, international passenger traffic at Entebbe remained below the levels recorded during the same period last year.
July 2026 traffic was 70,667 passengers lower than July 2025, while June 2026 recorded a deficit of 70,514 passengers compared with June 2025.
The figures indicate that although passenger activity has improved from June to July, international air traffic has not yet returned to the levels recorded a year earlier.
Cargo Volumes Increase
Cargo activity at the airport also increased in July.
Entebbe handled 4,799 metric tonnes of cargo during the month, comprising 3,123 tonnes of exports and 1,676 tonnes of imports.
This was an increase from the 4,140 metric tonnes handled in June.
Exports accounted for the larger share of cargo handled, highlighting the airport’s continued role in connecting Ugandan producers and exporters to international markets.
The rise in both passenger and cargo traffic in July points to increased activity at Uganda’s main international gateway, even as overall passenger numbers remain below last year’s levels.
