Ssekabaka Kagulu Tebucwereke was the 20th Kabaka. In Buganda’s history, Ssekabaka Kagulu was the toughest King. He did not tolerate lazy subjects, thieves, corruption, liars and ordered their execution. He also killed Musenje Golooba, his half-brother.
He had sharp nail-like objects manufactured by blacksmiths which he placed infront of his seat wherever he went or granted an audience to his subjects. To prove that he was extraordinary, Kagulu used to summon many people to his court.
He would then often command them to dig up a Muvule tree but with its roots intact. And they had to carry out the order. His summary execution of many of them and the drastic measures he took against others, throws some light on how the strong – willed King dealt with opposition.
