Job Overview

Uganda Heart Institute invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans for the position of Internal Auditor. The successful candidate will undertake routine internal audit assignments to support financial accountability, compliance and effective institutional operations.

Job Purpose

To conduct routine internal audit engagements in accordance with existing regulations and guidelines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Examine payment requests for correctness and verify the completeness of supporting documentation before certifying transactions for further processing.
• Verify receipts and reconcile invoices against Local Purchase Orders for goods and services before payments are made.
• Compile accountability returns, verify advance ledgers and ensure retirement of advances.
• Maintain primary financial records and up-to-date books of account.
• Prepare periodic financial reconciliations and reconcile monthly cash books against bank statements.
• Verify payroll requests, calculations, payments and deductions, and follow up approvals and payments to beneficiaries.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must possess:

• An Honours Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting, or an Honours Bachelor’s degree with an Accountancy or Audit option, from a recognised awarding institution.
• A full professional qualification in Accountancy or Audit obtained from a recognised awarding institution accredited by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
