Job Summary
The Medical Officer will provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care through accurate diagnosis, effective treatment and disease prevention, while ensuring a positive patient experience in line with hospital standards, clinical protocols and ethical practices.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Examine, diagnose and treat patients in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Perform medical procedures within the scope of practice.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
Patient Management
- Admit, review and discharge patients appropriately.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Prepare clear medical reports and other required documentation.
Emergency Response
- Provide urgent and emergency medical care when required.
- Stabilize critically ill patients.
- Coordinate referrals when necessary.
Collaboration
- Work closely with nurses, specialists, pharmacists and laboratory teams.
- Participate in ward rounds, case reviews and multidisciplinary meetings.
Patient Education
- Educate patients and their families about diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Provide guidance on preventive care, health awareness and disease prevention.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Adhere to hospital policies, clinical protocols and ethical standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and safety.
- Participate in audits, Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) and continuous professional development activities.
Patient Experience and Engagement
- Provide compassionate, respectful and patient-centered care.
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and their families.
- Ensure patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options and progress.
- Listen to and respond appropriately to patient concerns, feedback and complaints.
- Promote a culture of service excellence and uphold the hospital’s patient experience standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a reputable university.
- Valid practicing licence from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical post-internship experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an added advantage.
