Credit Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality assessment and make prudent decisions on loan applications within delegated authority or recommend to higher approval levels
  • Ensure compliance with turnaround times and agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, coaching, and technical support to credit teams across the branch network
  • Drive growth of a healthy credit portfolio while minimizing risk
  • Support development and review of credit products, policies, and appraisal tools
  • Identify training needs for credit teams and recommend appropriate capacity-building initiatives
  • Support the Head of Credit or Senior Credit Manager and act in their capacity when required

Daily Responsibilities

  • Approve credit applications within delegated lending authority
  • Assess and recommend credit applications above approval limits
  • Coach and mentor credit analysts at Head Office
  • Monitor pre-approved loan applications to ensure timely processing within SLAs

Other Duties

  • Conduct or recommend credit training for Credit Analysts and Relationship Managers
  • Prepare and submit Board Credit Committee memos within required timelines
  • Participate in 360-degree reviews and customer feedback analysis
  • Review new or revised credit product proposals
  • Ensure applications are processed within turnaround time to avoid backlogs
  • Conduct periodic customer visits to assess business performance and facility utilization
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or a business-related field (Required)
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Added Advantage)

Professional Qualifications

  • Certification in Credit Management, Credit Risk Management, or related field (Required)

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience

Breakdown of Experience

  • Relationship Management: 1 year
  • Credit Underwriting and Approval: 4 years
  • Credit Portfolio Management: 1 year
