Hima Cement Limited is seeking a motivated and competent Trainee – Packing Plant Supervisor to join its intensive training program in Tororo. The program is designed to develop high-performing trainees into full-time technical roles.

Job Summary

The Trainee – Packing Plant Supervisor will work under the mentorship of the Production Manager to ensure the safety of people and equipment, oversee packing plant operations, achieve daily cement dispatch targets, reconcile paper bags, and ensure compliance with established procedures and regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comply with health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly about potentially dangerous situations and ensure instructions are understood.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure key dispatch equipment is functioning properly.
  • Support achievement of dispatch targets in line with the business strategy.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to improve packer utilization.
  • Monitor packing plant KPIs and communicate progress.
  • Liaise with Sales and Logistics teams to achieve cement dispatch targets while maintaining equipment in good condition.
  • Ensure first-level equipment inspections are conducted and identified gaps are addressed.
  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings to discuss problems, identify solutions and plan corrective actions.
  • Request paper bags and other consumables from Stores and follow up on accountability.
  • Prepare daily paper bag reconciliation reports against cement dispatched.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and support effective maintenance planning.
  • Prepare dispatch KPI reports to support management decision-making.
  • Promote quality workmanship and motivate personnel.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from a recognised university.
  • Must have graduated within the last 2–3 years.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong analytical thinking and eagerness to learn.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • High safety consciousness.
  • Adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of cement packing, bagging, loading and dispatch operations.
  • Ability to operate, monitor and troubleshoot packing machines, conveyors, compressors, elevators, feeders and related equipment.
  • Understanding of production parameters, process flow and equipment performance.
  • Knowledge of maintaining optimum packing rates.
  • Understanding of cement quality requirements, correct bag weights, packing accuracy and prevention of product contamination.
