UBA Uganda is seeking a motivated, competent, results-oriented, and dynamic professional to join its team as Relationship Manager – Public Sector.

Job Objective

The Relationship Manager – Public Sector will be responsible for growing and managing UBA’s public-sector portfolio by increasing:

  • Customer accounts
  • Deposit balances and liabilities
  • Assets
  • Product utilization
  • Revenue

The role will achieve these objectives through customer acquisition, cross-selling, collections, and effective relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prospect and engage public-sector organizations to grow the portfolio and improve segment profitability.
  • Acquire new customers and increase balances from both new and existing portfolios.
  • Develop customer proposals based on identified public-sector client needs and manage the sales process through to completion.
  • Drive utility growth and collections in collaboration with the wider sales team and marketing initiatives.
  • Develop a pipeline of prospective customers through networking, referrals, seminars, trade shows, industry events, and other relevant engagements.
  • Conduct regular customer and site visits and prepare updated call reports.
  • Monitor accounts within the assigned portfolio to maximize balances, cross-selling opportunities, and revenue.
  • Address the day-to-day and medium-term banking needs of public-sector customers.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Branch, and Credit teams to meet customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Work with product specialists, particularly in E-Banking, to maintain product knowledge and identify new business opportunities.
  • Develop and manage an effective weekly calling programme, including identifying prospective customers and arranging meetings.
  • Prepare weekly reports covering calling activities and sales performance against agreed targets.
  • Monitor delivery of customer requirements and respond to customer complaints and queries.
  • Identify systemic service failures and escalate them to the Head of Public Sector for management-level intervention.
  • Perform other sales and relationship-management duties as assigned.

Key Performance Indicators

Performance will be assessed based on:

  • Growth of the portfolio in terms of assets and liabilities.
  • Ratio of non-performing assets to the total portfolio.
  • Growth in product penetration among managed customers.
  • Turnaround time for customer deliverables.
  • Number and management of customer complaints and queries.
  • Revenue generated through interest income, fees, and commissions.

Qualifications

Education

Minimum requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Business Administration
    • Finance
    • Economics
    • Management

Added advantage:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional qualifications in Accounting or Finance, such as:
    • ACCA
    • CPA
    • CFA
  • Equivalent professional qualifications.

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Corporate Banking.

Knowledge & Competencies

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements for credit assessment.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Creativity and initiative.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in credit origination and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong understanding of corporate banking products.
  • Broad knowledge of banking products and services.
  • Good knowledge of the Financial Institutions Statute 2004 and regulations governing credit lending.
